Nothing has launched the Phone 3(a) series, the successor to the Phone 2(a) from last year, including the Phone 3(a) and Phone 3(a) Pro, promising better style, camera, and intelligence. Here’s all you need to know about Nothing’s new phones — the Phone 3(a) and Phone 3(a) Pro.
Nothing Phone 3(a) and Nothing Phone 3(a) Pro design
Phone 3 (a) and Phone 3(a) Pro share a similar fundamental design, but with some differences. The plastic frame remains flat, though the back is now made of glass, and that gives both phones an IP64 rating. The pill-shaped camera module that was introduced on the 2(a) is a sensor bigger on the 3(a). Now, the Phone 3(a) Pro has an altogether different module; all the sensors sit inside a full circle, still having Nothing’s exposed aesthetics.
The Glyph Interface is still there. What’s new about the Phone 3(a) is the “Essential Key,” an extra button which opens up what Nothing calls “Essential Space,” and they’re describing it as an “AI-powered hub for notes, ideas, and inspirations.”
The Essential Space, as of now has two features – Camera Capture and Smart Collections — that will be available in early access.
Press the Essential Key, and the phone will take a screenshot or you can take a photo. Then, Essential Space banks and analyses your photo for when needed so that you can flow through. Then, Smart Collections auto catalogues screenshots, that’s all.
Other Essential Space features, including Focused Search and Flip to Record, will be rolling out in the coming months.
Nothing Phone 3(a) and Nothing Phone 3(a) Pro specifications
The screen on the Phone 3(a) and Phone 3(a) Pro is a 10-bit 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED, having a 120Hz refresh rate and 800 nits of typical brightness. This screen is protected with Panda Glass.
Powering the Phone 3(a) is the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, built on a 4nm process node, having a Kryto 8-core CPU and a Hexagon NPU. The chipset comes coupled with 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage.
The battery on the Phone 3(a) series is the same 6,000mAh capacity unit as the Phone 2(a), though Nothing says the new phones will last 30 minutes longer. The phones support 50W fast charging, but don’t come with a charger in the box.
Phone 3(a) and Phone 3(a) both have a trio of cameras at the back, sharing the same 8MP ultrawide and 50MP main sensor. What’s the difference between the two is their telephoto sensors. The Phone 3(a) has a 50MP 2x zoom telephoto with EIS, while the Phone 3(a) Pro has a 50MP 3x zoom periscope lens with OIS. On the front, both phones have a 32MP camera.
The Phone 3(a) series comes with NothingOS 3.1 out-of-the-box, and this newer version of OS brings some under-the-hood improvements as well as some new features, including a Gallery app and Essential Space (it’ll be early access as of now).
