NOIDA: A fire broke out at the Annapurna Girls Hostel in Knowledge Park 3, Greater Noida, on Thursday, triggering panic among students. A video of the incident showed girls leaping out of their balconies in an attempt to escape the flames.
According to chief fire officer Pradeep Chaubey, the fire department responded swiftly to the emergency and rushed to the spot after getting information about the fire around 5:25pm.
“Our unit immediately launched a search operation, going door to door inside the hostel using breathing apparatus (BA) sets despite the heavy smoke. However, no students were found trapped, as they evacuated safely,” he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by an explosion in the compressor of an air conditioner inside a second-floor room. The room was locked and unoccupied at the time of the incident.
Two fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames, and the fire was successfully brought under control. “There has been no loss of life, and no one was trapped inside,” Chaubey confirmed.
