Fans of the Korean drama series Squid Game were in for a New Year’s surprise when Netflix Korea seemingly revealed the release date for the highly anticipated third season.
A teaser video posted on the streaming giant’s official YouTube channel appeared to announce the release date of the third season. The teaser video featured Young-hee, the iconic girl robot from the infamous “Red Light, Green Light” game, being transported to a new location where she is kept face-to-face with a new robot, Chul-soo.
The video is the same from the post-credit scene of Season 2, prompting speculation about a new game in the upcoming season. While the video was titled “Squid Game Season 3 2025 Release,” the description below briefly stated, “Watch ‘Squid Game’ on Netflix on June 27.”
The video has since been set to private, but not before fans captured the information and shared it on social media platforms.
With the introduction of Chul-soo, fans are eager to see how this new character will fit into the games’ deadly narrative. Season 2 began with Lee Jung-Jae’s character setting out to bring an end to the games, however, as the finale suggests, the players will have to keep going and fight to stay alive in the next season.
Netflix has yet to confirm or deny the accidental announcement. However, that has not stopped fans from counting down the days to June 27 in anticipation of the gripping conclusion to this chapter in the nail-biting Squid Game saga.
Meanwhile, rumours are also rife that Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has been cast in a cameo in the upcoming Season 3. The actor, who is a fan of the franchise, has reportedly shot his brief scene in the US.
