NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old man from Nepal who allegedly stabbed his wife’s suspected lover in outer Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area in Nov was arrested following a cross-border search operation. The accused was caught in Delhi two days ago when he returned to check if the man had succumbed to the stab wounds.
Earlier, the accused, working in Kuwait, received a divorce request from his wife. Upon discovering her alleged relationship with a factory colleague, he initiated an obsessive surveillance operation that spanned from Nepal to Mumbai and Delhi. “The accused exhibited an alarming pattern of stalking, meticulously tracking his target across multiple cities,” said a senior police officer from Outer North Delhi district.
For nearly three months, he travelled between Nepal and Delhi several times and stayed near his wife’s rented accommodation in the city to monitor their movements. He maintained detailed observations of their daily routines and travel patterns, police sources said.
The situation turned violent on Nov 23, when the accused confronted and repeatedly stabbed the 32-year-old man near his Mukundpur residence. Following the assault, he fled to the Nepal border, where he attempted to evade capture by frequently changing his phone numbers. He was even planning to assume a new identity. “Our teams conducted a 30-day search operation along the Nepal border. We even spoke to the authorities concerned in Nepal, worked with our informants and used technical surveillance to track his movements,” said the officer.
The breakthrough in the case came just two days ago when intelligence sources alerted police about the accused’s return to Delhi. “He came back to verify if the victim died during treatment. He might have been planning another attack,” the officer said.
The victim, who was critical, has now recovered substantially but is under observation.
During interrogation, the accused revealed how he left his job to pursue what became an obsessive vendetta. Police have registered a case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of BNS at the Bhalswa Dairy police station.
