NEW DELHI: The Namo Bharat trains officially entered Delhi with the launch of a 13-kilometer section connecting Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar, via Anand Vihar.
The two stations—Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar—became operational on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the 82-kilometer Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, which is set to be fully ready by June 2025.
Key features of Namo Bharat trains:

  • Push button to open doors
  • Luggage racks
  • Emergency call button to contact the train operator
  • Mobile and laptop charging points
  • CCTV cameras for security
  • A train attendant available in each train
  • One coach reserved exclusively for women
  • Reserved seats in other coaches for women, elderly passengers, and persons with disabilities

Facilities at stations:

  • Free drinking water
  • Washrooms
  • CCTV cameras for enhanced security
  • Dedicated pick-up and drop-off areas
  • Ramps and large special lifts for easy wheelchair and stretcher access
  • Tactile paths for the visually impaired

The addition of this new section brings the total operational distance to 55 km of the 82 km planned corridor. It will reduce travel time significantly, with commuters from New Ashok Nagar able to reach Meerut South in just 40 minutes.
With trains running every 15 minutes, the RRTS system promises faster, more efficient travel along the Delhi-Meerut route.
