Mohammed Shami‘s much-awaited return to Team India got delayed after he was not included in the playing eleven for the first T20I against England in Kolkata, but the veteran pacer continued to train full tilt, despite heavy bandage on his legs, in Chennai on the eve of the second game of the five-match series on Saturday.
Under the close observation of bowling coach Morne Morkel, Shami went through various stages of intensity during the team’s net session on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

He began with a gentle jog around the park to warm up, followed by throwing drills with fielding coach T Dilip before marking his run-up in preparation to bowl.
The 34-year-old right-arm pacer progressed gradually, starting with a shortened run-up and eventually bowling with his full-run-up; but he managed to generate decent pace.
He paused briefly to consult with Morkel and head coach Gautam Gambhir before returning to continue his bowling practice.

Later, Shami bowled a few deliveries to all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had returned to the main ground with Hardik Pandya, before switching his focus to fielding and catching exercises.
The veteran fast bowler had last played for India in the 2023 World Cup final.
