KALYAN: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) tried to corner the state govt over delay in the construction of two flyovers on Kalyan Sheel Road by putting up big banners near the Palava junction saying the flyover would be inaugurated by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on April 30. The two flyovers will connect Kalyan city to Navi Mumbai.
Former MLA of the Raj Thackeray-led MNS, Pramod (Raju) Patil, marked April Fools’ Day with the banners, which became a topic of discussion in the city as work on the flyovers has been stuck for years.
Patil also asked deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde on X when the two flyovers planned there would be built.
Reacing to the MNS banners, local Shiv Sena MLA Rajesh More put up his own banner taking a dig at the former MLA Patil, again in the name of April Fools’ Day. His banner stated, “Raju Patil appointed as MLA. The decision was taken in the shadow cabinet of the MNS, and all the heads of state will be present at his swearing-in ceremony on 1 April.”
There are massive traffic jams in the morning and evening near the Palava junction on Kalyan Sheel Road. This is the reason the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority decided to build two railway flyovers to reduce traffic there. Work started in 2018, but it has proceeded at a very slow pace.
MNS’s Patil lost in the last assembly elections to the Shiv Sena’s More.
The FIR filed b y Sena against Kamra after his show which alluded to Dy CM Shinde alleged that he performed a parody of a popular Hindi song from the 1997 film “Dil Toh Pagal Hai”, making allegedly disparaging remarks about Shinde and the 2022 split in the Shiv Sena and NCP in 2023. He has been booked for creating public mischief and defamation.
