Bill Gates’ visit to India

Bill Gates recently visited India to mark the 25th anniversary of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. During this trip, his third in as many years, Gates engaged with several key figures to discuss the country’s advancements in technology, health, and development. He met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing admiration for India’s innovative approaches that drive both local and global progress.
Gates also interacted with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda to review collaborations in healthcare, focusing on improvements in maternal health, immunization, and sanitation. Additionally, he met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, where they discussed development challenges and the promise of innovation in India.
In a demonstration of grassroots technological empowerment, Gates visited the Indian Agricultural Research Institute’s Pusa Campus in New Delhi. There, he observed rural women being trained to operate drones under the Namo Drone Didi Scheme, an initiative aimed at increasing women’s independence and economic opportunities in rural areas.
The visit also marked the first time the Gates Foundation’s Board of Trustees convened in the Global South, reflecting the significance of India’s contributions to global health and development.
Reflecting on the visit, Gates wrote in his blog, “I came away with new ideas because India is full of smart, ambitious people tackling some of the world’s hardest problems in creative ways.”
