Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has lauded China-based AI company DeepSeek as a new benchmark for the Redmond giant’s artificial intelligence efforts, emphasizing the power of focused innovation during a recent employee town hall meeting.
According to The Verge, Nadella was particularly impressed by DeepSeek’s ability to optimize AI computing architecture and achieve significant results with a small team. “What’s most impressive about DeepSeek is that it’s a great reminder of what 200 people can do when they come together with one thought and one play,” Nadella told Microsoft employees.

Nadella sets a new standard for Microsoft’s AI development after DeepSeek’s launch

The Microsoft CEO highlighted DeepSeek’s remarkable achievement of not just developing a research project, but transforming it into a top-performing App Store product. This success has set a new standard for Microsoft’s internal AI development strategy, especially as the company continues to invest heavily in AI technologies.
The DeepSeek model’s efficiency in systems optimization, particularly working below Nvidia’s CUDA layer, caught Nadella’s attention as a prime example of innovative technological development.
Jay Parikh, head of Microsoft’s new CoreAI engineering group, echoed Nadella’s sentiments, noting that DeepSeek serves as a reminder of the importance of internal collaboration and rapid innovation in the competitive AI landscape.
