Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg who wrote an expose on how he was mistakenly added to a Sigal chat group where the officials of the Trump administration discussed the Yemen war plan Sunday said it’s untrue that he and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz never spoke before. Waltz is facing the heat as apparently he added Goldberg to the group chat though President Donald Trump played down the entire controversy and hinted that it was probably Mike Waltz‘s staff who added Goldberg.
Signal chatgate: Here’s what happened so far
Trump administration dismisses row: While the Democrats demanded the resignations of Mike Waltz and defense secretary Pete Hegseth over the security breach in a war plan, the Donald Trump administration took the controversy lightly. Donald Trump said it was just one mistake in three months and Waltz has learned his lesson.
Will Waltz be fired? The administration has made it clear that no one would be fired for chatgate as they don’t think it was anything serious. But insiders claimed that a search for a scapegoat is on. And Vice President JD Vance was of the opinion that Waltz should be fired. Reports said Donald Trump too, for a moment, pondered over whether he should fire Waltz but he decided against it.
Waltz said he did not know Goldberg: Waltz said he never met Goldberg and did not even have his number saved on his phone. But probably Goldberg;s number got “sucked in” to his phone via “somebody else’ contact”. In NBC’s Meet the Press, Goldberg Sunday said that’s not possible. “This isn’t ‘The Matrix,’ phone numbers don’t just get sucked into other phones,” Goldberg said. “You know, very frequently in journalism, the most obvious explanation is the explanation,” Goldberg added. “My phone number was in his phone, because my phone number is in his phone.”
