NEW DELHI: Karma hit back at three men in the most unexpected way after they committed a heinous highway crime. The trio, who stole a motorcycle from a fatal accident scene and left the victim to die, met with a crash moments later that landed them in hospital.
According to police the accident occurred in the early hours of Jan 11 on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. A man named Vikas, an employee of a private company, was on a motorbike and had neared Ghitorni when his two-wheeler skidded. CCTV footage showed him falling from his bike and apparently losing consciousness on the road.
Instead of helping the injured victim, three men who appeared at the site — Uday Kumar, Tinku, and Parambir, all from Fatehpur Beri — attempted to steal his motorcycle. The trio, believed to be drug addicts, left Vikas lying helpless on the road in the freezing cold.
But shortly after stealing the motorcycle and riding off, they met with an accident on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. All three were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Kumar suffered severe injuries and is in a coma, while Tinku and Parambir sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, Vikas, who was left unattended on the road, succumbed to his injuries. The South district police received two PCR calls regarding the two accidents. The Fatehpur Beri police station began investigations and collected CCTV footage from both accident locations. The footage clearly shows the three accused attempting to take away the motorcycle while leaving the injured owner on the road.
Investigations are still under way and police are examining all available evidence, including the CCTV footage from various locations along MG Road and MB Road, to establish the complete sequence of events that led to these incidents. The cops had earlier thought the two were unlinked road accidents. Both the accidents happened within a span of 30 minutes. “We are probing whether the trio consumed liquor after stealing the bike,” a police officer said.
