Marathon with a mission: Dr. K.M. Abraham runs to raise funds for Wayanad

Dr. K.M. Abraham, the 68-year-old former Chief Secretary of Kerala and current CEO of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), ran 42 km in the Mumbai Full Marathon to raise awareness and support for the victims of the Chooralmala and Mundakai landslides. Carrying a banner that read, “Run for Wayanad: Donate generously for the townships being built in Kalpetta and Nedumbala,” his inspiring run highlighted his unwavering commitment to social causes and the rehabilitation of the affected communities, proving that age is no barrier to making a meaningful impact.

When asked how he could do this at his age, he replied, “If we decided, it would have happened.” “This is not the first time I am running a marathon. I ran the London Marathon in 2023 and 24. I started running a full marathon in Mumbai last year. But this year’s run has something special. This run is for the relief of Wayanad. If I get any help for the relief fund through my run, I will be blessed,” he said.
“When I was working in Mumbai from 2008 to 2011, I used to run half marathons (21 km). To get a chance to run in the London Marathon, you have to be sponsored by a charity. I was working as part of an organisation called Brain Research in the UK They were the sponsors there. Earlier, I used to run between two and five kilometers. I gradually increased it,” said K.M. Abraham. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan handed over the Mumbai Marathon jersey to him at a ceremony held at the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram.
