KRISHNAGIRI: An unidentified man raped an 80-year-old beggar woman near Hosur on Tuesday night
Police said the motorcycle-borne man, aged around 25 years, approached the woman when she was standing near the Hosur bus stand. The woman used to stay at the Hosur bus stand seeking alms, according to police.
He asked her where she wanted to go. She told him that she wanted to go to Kelamangalam. He offered to give her a ride on his two-wheeler.
Instead of taking her to Kelamangalam, the man took her to the Perandapalli reserve forest where he raped her. “The man then fled the scene, leaving her in the forest,” an officer at Hosur all-women police station said.
On being alerted by some locals, the police arrived at scene and took her to Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital. Her condition was stable.
The police registered a case and began investigations. Krishnagiri district superintendent police P Thangadurai said a team had been formed to nab the suspect. “We are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the man,” the SP said.
