NEW DELHI: Gearing up to meet high passenger demand on Mauni Amavasya Wednesday, railways will run special trains every four minutes from Prayagraj stations, mostly from the main junction. Around 48.7 lakh passengers have arrived across nine stations of Prayagraj from Jan 13 till Sunday.
Of this, a maximum of 13.9 lakh passengers travelled to Prayagraj by train on Jan 14 on Makar Sankranti, one of the main bathing days (Snan) of Maha Kumbh, when 101 fair special trains were operated.
Railway ministry officials said operating at least 150 special trains in a single day on Mauni Amavasya will be an achievement considering that this will surpass the 85 trains operated during the same occasion in Ardh Kumbh in 2019.
An estimate of around 10 crore pilgrims are expected to take a dip in the Triveni Sangam Wednesday and around around 10% of them are expected to travel by trains.
“We are expecting a record number of pilgrims taking trains to reach Prayagraj,” said an official.
