NEW DELHI: Pravesh Yadav, a 22-year-old from Alwar district of Rajasthan, who was allegedly involved in liquor smuggling and had evaded arrest since July 2023, was apprehended by police in the Civil Lines area of Prayagraj on Sunday.
Yadav had arrived in the city to take part in the ritual bathing at the Maha Kumbh, which many believe washes off one’s sins, but was arrested due to strong police surveillance.
Superintendent of police of Bhadohi Abhimanyu Manglik told PTI that Pravesh Yadav had been absconding for one-and-half years. On July 29, 2023, during a vehicle check on national highway-19, adulterated liquor meant for smuggling from Alwar to Bihar was recovered, and Pradeep Yadav and Raj Domoliya were arrested from the Unj police station area in Bhadohi, while Pravesh Yadav escaped from the spot.
Mangalik alleged that all three individuals are residents of Alwar district and were involved in smuggling illegal liquor to Bihar for a long time. A case was registered against them under various sections of the IPC, Excise Act, and Gangster Act.
The officer said that Yadav reached Prayagraj to take a holy dip but was arrested by police due to effective surveillance.
