Nagged by wife over education, UP man immolates himself in Cantt area

LUCKNOW: A 38-year-old man, identified as Deepak Bharti, set himself on fire in front of a guest house in Cantonment area on Tuesday evening over marital dispute. People present at the spot rescued the man, a Hussainganj resident and informed police. The man was admitted to Civil Hospital.
“Prima facie, it has come to light that the man attempted self-immolation over dispute with his wife. The family members were informed, after which his brother arrived,” the police stated.
According to police, during questioning, the young man said he was a semi-literate, for which his wife, Deepa Bharti, kept nagging him. Deepa is employed at Cantonment guest house.
Eyewitnesses told police that in full public view, the man poured petrol on his body and set himself afire. He was saved by the bystanders.
ADCP East Pankaj Singh reached the hospital and inquired. ADCP East Pankaj Singh said the man fought with his wife over a domestic issue and when the matter escalated, he reached near Cantt guest house and set himself on fire.
The couple have an 8-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.
