LUCKNOW: An auto driver in mid-30s fell victim to mistaken identity when contract killers shot him dead instead of a girl’s father, who was the real target. The police solved the murder case in 13 days, arresting two shooters and the conspirator on Sunday.
According to reports, Mohammad Rizwan was shot dead in Madeyganj, Lucknow on Dec 30. After working out the case the police said that it was a revenge crime which was fallout of a love affair. Police officials said that the shooters were supposed to kill father of a young girl living in Lucknow. But instead of killing their target they shot Rizwan dead.
On Dec 30, Rizwan, a resident of Bhikampur in Mahanagar, was going to Madey- ganj in his auto to drop a passenger when he was shot dead by unidentified miscreants. As Rizwan had no enmity with anyone the police were finding it difficult to get a lead. Initially, the police, too, treated the case as that of accidental firing by unidentified miscreants.
However, during subsequent investigation, it was revealed that the entire plot was hatched by one Aftab Ahmed, an advocate. He was having an affair with a junior advocate who was later married in Delhi. Because of her marriage, Aftab was unable to meet her.
“The girl’s father lives alone in Makkanganj, Lucknow. Aftab thought if he got him killed, his girlfriend would return to her home in Lucknow and he would be able to meet her,” the police said.
Aftab involved Moham- mad Yasir in this conspiracy by offering him money. Later, Yasir with the help of Krishnakant alias Sajan executed the killing. Aftab promised to give Yasir Rs 2 lakh and weapons for the murder.
Yasir took Krishnakant along with him for this work and also conducted a recce of his girlfriend father’s house on Dec 29. After this, on the night of Dec 30, they mistook auto driver Rizwan for Irfan Ali and shot him dead. After killing Rizwan, both of them demanded money from Aftab. Aftab said that the person who was to be killed was alive and therefore, he would not give money.
Meanwhile, the police started investigation and arrested the two shooters. “Aftab was also arrested later,” said DCP central zone, Raveena Tyagi.
