Agra: A Mainpuri court has sentenced a man and a woman to death for murdering a 55-year-old man in May 2024 under Karhal police station limits. The court found that the duo – who were in an affair — blackmailed the victim and killed him before dumping his body in a pond. The verdict was delivered by additional district and sessions judge court no. 4, Jaihendra Pal Singh, who also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each convict.
The convicts, Manu Devi, 42, and Abhay alias Bhoora, 38, are residents of Garhiya, Karhal, Mainpuri. In his ruling, the judge said they should be “hanged by the neck till death”. Their associate was acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
Additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Rakesh Kumar Gupta said Pawan Yadav, the victim’s son, had filed a police complaint after his father, who lived with him in Nagla Naya village, went missing on May 5, 2024. “Yadav’s father had left home on a bike around 8.30pm to attend a birthday party but did not return. The family found his motorcycle and mobile phone near Ranipura Nagla Bamba. They later received information that his body was floating in a pond in Nanamai village. The body had injuries on the hands and legs, and blood was oozing from the mouth.”
The police registered a case under IPC section 302 (murder) and launched an investigation. They arrested Devi, Bhoora, and an associate, sending them to jail. Investigations revealed that Devi used to blackmail people by secretly recording their private moments. The victim had protested against her and Bhoora, leading them to kill him and dump his body. Devi filmed Bhoora while he brutally murdered the victim. The police presented video clips in court as evidence, which played a key role in securing the conviction.
