Liquor bottles, threats and theft: Coimbatore trio arrested after video go viral; watch
Three youths were arrested by Kattoor police in Coimbatore for drunken driving, violating traffic rules, and holding liquor bottles while on a scooter. They went viral on social media, and after further investigation, it was found they also threatened and robbed a civilian. The trio, identified, were remanded in judicial custody.

COIMBATORE: Kattoor police in Coimbatore city arrested three youths on Sunday night for drunken driving. The youths were violating traffic rules while travelling on a scooter, and they were holding liquor bottles.

The video went viral on social media on Sunday evening, and the police arrested them that night.
The arrested youths were identified as S Gowtham, 28, a daily wage labourer from Ezhil Nagar at Vadamadurai, S Susinthkumar, 23, and L Rajkumar, 28, both natives of Thanjavur.
Police said Susinthkumar was engaged in air conditioner service and was staying in a mansion in Coimbatore city. Rajkumar was also engaged in air conditioner service and was staying at Gandhipuram.
They were travelling on the second-level flyover connecting 100 Feet Road – Chinnasamy Road on a scooter on Saturday around 10 pm, and they were holding a liquor bottle in their hands. They were also travelling the wrong way on the flyover.
Some motorists took videos using their mobile phones, and the video went viral on social media on Sunday. The rider of the scooter did not wear a helmet.
R Rajkumar, 26, from Ambika Layout at Siddhapudur in Coimbatore city, questioned the trio on Saturday night about why they were involved in reckless driving that would create fear among other motorists.
One of the youths broke a liquor bottle and kept the bottle on the abdomen of Rajkumar, threatening him to give money. Otherwise, he would insert the broken bottle into Rajkumar’s abdomen. The trio robbed Rs 500 in cash from Rajkumar and threatened him with dire consequences. The trio managed to escape.
The victim lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday afternoon, and the police registered a case against the trio under sections 296 (b), 308 (4), 351 (3), 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) act and sections 128, 129 read with 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The police traced the trio and arrested them. The police also seized a motorcycle from them. The arrested youths were remanded in judicial custody and were lodged at the Coimbatore central prison on Monday morning.
