Liquor bottle tucked in waistband pierces abdomen, kills man at UP wedding

MEERUT: A wedding celebration turned into mourning when 22-year-old Himanshu Singh died of critical injuries after a liquor bottle tucked in his waistband broke.
Police said the bottle broke into pieces after Singh — upon seeing a family member nearby — hastily tucked it while attempting to jump over a wall. But, he accidentally fell flat on his stomach and the bottle broke and pieces of glass pierced his abdomen.
SP (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said, “The incident took place under Sardhana police station of Meerut on Saturday and he died hours later. The grieving family cremated the man without informing the police.”
A villager said, “Singh, the groom’s neighbour, was asked to bring a liquor bottle for a bachelor’s party. When he saw a family member, he tried to quickly hide the bottle in the waistband and jump over a wall. He slipped and fell. The bottle broke into pieces upon impact, pierced his abdomen and caused severe injuries. He was bleeding profusely and taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead.”
The incident left the family and the entire village devastated, forcing them to call off the groom’s procession on Sunday. They later went ahead with the wedding sans the celebrations.
