The National Commission for Women (NCW) has tanotedouTuber and influencer Elvish YaYadav’s racist statements toward actress and Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang. The NCW has summoned Yadav to appear on February 17.
Elvish Yadav made disrespectful remarks about Chum Darang on his podcast, sparking the issue. He criticised her name and nationality, making everyone outraged and surprised. Elvish also disparaged her involvement in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi, making obscene remarks about her.
“Karan Veer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai… Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mein kiya hai,” Elvish had said. These comments led to a major outrage on social media.
Chum Darang later responded sharply to the comments, denouncing Yadav’s actions. In a statement, she emphasised the harm done by such remarks and conveyed her regret. She underlined that Elvish’s statements blurred the line between comedy and hatred and that the insults targeted not only her race but also the effort she has put into her career.
“Disrespecting someone’s identity and name is not ‘fun.’ Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line between humour and hate. What’s even more disappointing is that this wasn’t just about my ethnicity my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected,” she penned in a withering post.
Elvish Yadav stated in his vlog that he examined social media and discovered that he had been accused of making ‘racist words’. “Toh maine kholke dekha maine kahi, kya racist remarks kare hain? Maine Chum ke Upar kuch bol rakha tha. Waise maine kaha maine bola ya nahi? Hatao, mujhe negativity chahiye hi nahi. If maan lo kisiko kharab lag raha hai mere bolne se, then bhai, wo portion maine delete kar diya. (So I opened it to see if I’d made any racist comments. I said something about Chum. I don’t care if I said it or not; I removed it. I do not want any negativity. If somebody felt bad because of what I said, then brother, I have removed that part).
