NOIDA: A Lamborghini being evaluated for performance during a test drive veered onto the pavement of an under-construction building in Sector 94 on Sunday evening, injuring two workers who had to be admitted to a hospital later.
Police said the luxury vehicle was being driven by Deepak Kumar — a car dealer from Ajmer who was arrested later. He had come to Noida to test the Lamborghini, which is owned by Mridul, a resident of Supernova in Sector 94 and YouTuber with 18.7 million followers.
Deepak was alone in the car when he lost control of it around 5pm.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused came to Noida on Sunday morning to check the car. He took the car out for a test drive and also did some shopping. When he was on his way back to return the car to its owner, he lost control of it and ploughed into the construction workers seated on a pavement. Rambhu and Rambhu suffered injuries to their arms and legs while two others narrowly escaped the accident. We are currently questioning the accused driver,” a senior police officer said.
After the car halted, some workers and passersby confronted Deepak, who asked whether anyone was dead. A 51-second video widely circulated on social media captured a tense exchange between the driver and a bystander.
The footage shows the bystander asking, “Are you practising stunts?” The driver responds casually, “Is anyone dead?”. The passerby then tells others to call police.
A team from Sector 126 police station took Deepak into custody and registered an FIR against him under sections 281 (rash driving) and 125 (a) (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of BNS. The car was seized as well. Police agreed that the accident had renewed concern about high-performance vehicles being driven rashly on busy city roads, especially with untrained drivers testing their speed limits.
