BELAGAVI: Chikodi police on Thursday arrested a woman who allegedly killed her husband and cut his body into two pieces to erase the evidence. The incident is said to have occurred three days ago in Umarani village of Chikodi taluk. The reason behind the incident is said to be the husband’s torture for money.
Shrimant Ramappa Itnale, 50, is the deceased. Addressing mediapersons on Thursday, SP Bhimashankar Guled said the accused, Savitri Itnale, 30, frustrated by the torture of her drunkard husband for money, killed him at night by throwing a stone upon his head while he was sleeping.
After the murder, she tried to take the body outside to cremate it. Since the body was heavy, she cut it into two parts using a sharp weapon. Later, she put the body parts in two separate drums and carried them to the outskirts of the village. She threw the body in one of the farmlands.
“When police reached the spot following the information of the farmland owner, the body was in decomposing state and was hard to recognise. Chikodi DySP reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Police did not get any clue for the first couple of days. When they took one of the persons in the village for inquiry, they got a lead. Based on the information, they arrested Savitri Itnale. During the interrogation, she confessed to the crime,” SP Guled said.
According to SP Guled, police also recovered the materials used in the crime. The accused cleaned blood marks in the house after the incident and threw the stone that was used in the murder into a well nearby. She burnt the clothes with blood marks. She also switched off her husband’s phone after the incident and warned her daughter, who was an eyewitness to the incident, not to speak about it to anybody.
SP Guled said, according to the accused, the deceased was an alcoholic used to torture her for money every day. There was a site in her name, and he wanted her to sell that to buy a motorbike. She said she was frustrated by his torture and killed him.
