KANPUR: In a tragic incident, a six-year-old child died after being kicked by a horse during a wedding procession at Thakur Chowk in Hanumant Vihar area of Kanpur on Sunday.
The incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed at a neighbour’s house.
The video, which is doing rounds on social media, shows villagers enjoying the wedding procession and the horse being made to dance by its handlers.
While the children can be seen playing near the horse, one of them, Krishna, 6, was kicked so hard that he was flung into the air, fell, and lost consciousness.
The child, who suffered injuries on his head and neck, was rushed to a private hospital in Karrahi. He was later shifted to Saket Nagar, and finally to a private hospital in Sarvodaya Nagar, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday evening. Hanumant Vihar police station SHO Uday Pratap Singh visited the location upon receiving news of the child’s death and reviewed CCTV recordings that documented the incident.
The victim is the son of Suresh Chandra Gupta, who operates an e-rickshaw and lives near Thakur Chauraha.
Additional DCP (South) Mahesh Kumar confirmed the cause of death as injuries from the horse kick. He said that the family had not filed any accusations and declined both post-mortem examination and legal proceedings. He, however, added that action would be taken if the family chooses to lodge a complaint.
