Kanchi seer stresses on Brahmin unity

BENGALURU: Emphasising the role played by Brahmins in protecting and promoting the Vedic religion and culture, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham pontiff Jagadguru Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swami recently said that it is time the community collaborated for personal and collective development.
Addressing a 3,000-plus gathering at an Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha event here Sunday, he said Brahmins were facing economic difficulties and losing their voice in the propagation of dharma after Independence. He urged them to work unitedly for social and spiritual progress, adding that the community should play a vital role in promoting Sanatana Dharma. “For the Vedic religion to be stable, there should be Brahmanism.”
The pontiff said that Brahmins shouldn’t outsource practices like ‘sandhya vandana’, Gayatri worship and agni puja. They should strive to remain in India where their presence is vital for preserving Bharat’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Brahmins should counter their negative portrayal by ensuring that media and movies showcase their contributions in music, art and cinema, the pontiff said, adding that the community should live together in mutual cooperation.
He urged Brahmins to stay connected with rural communities and establish detailed records of gotras in every household and temple. He also called for greater presence of Brahmins in administration in order to promote dharma.
