VARANASI: A 22-year-old man, accused of killing his girlfriend, packing the body in a trolley bag and dumping it in bushes in Jaunpur on Feb 25, was arrested on Saturday.
The accused Vishal Sahani was arrested by a team led by inspector Kotwali Mithilesh Mishra from Jaunpur Junction while he was about to board a train to Kerala to take shelter there, said Jaunpur ASP (city) Arvind Kumar Verma.
We have also recovered the utensil, which was used to attack the victim Ananya, he said.
During the initial investigation, it came to light that Ananya and Vishal belonged to Mudadev Tehri village under Rohania police station in Varanasi. They were in a relationship since 2019. However, Ananya’s family forced her to marry another youth.
“But this marriage did not last long and she left her husband’s home and returned to her parental home, only to continue her relationship with Vishal. She also took up a job at a mall in Jaunpur and started living in a rented house in Machhlishahar area,” said police.
On Feb 24, Vishal went to Ananya’s place in Machhlishahr, where they had a fight over some trivial issue.
It was during the fight that Vishal started hitting her with a frying pan. After ensuring that she was dead, he tied Ananya’s legs and head with a rope and stuffed her body into a trolley bag. He loaded this trolley bag onto an e-rickshaw and dumped it in bushes in front of a prominent hospital in Jaunpur.
After this, Vishal left Jaunpur and reached his home in Varanasi, where he first shaved his head and bathed in the Ganga before planning to leave the city.
However, before he could manage to escape, the trolley bag containing Ananya’s body was noticed by some locals on Friday, who alerted the police. The cops first ascertained the identity and later through CCTV footages identified Vishal as accused.
