Pat Cummins (Australia), Jasprit Bumrah (India), and Dane Paterson (South Africa) are the nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for December 2024.
Australian captain Pat Cummins showcased exceptional skills with both bat and ball during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His outstanding performance led Australia to a 3-1 series victory over India, securing their spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final.
Cummins took 17 wickets in three Tests at an average of 17.64. His best bowling figures of 5/57 came in Adelaide, contributing significantly to Australia’s 10-wicket win.
He also made crucial contributions with the bat, scoring 49 and 41 runs in Melbourne, which played a vital role in Australia’s victory.
Cummins’ leadership and all-round performance were key to Australia’s series win and qualification for the WTC Final at Lord’s in June 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah demonstrated his exceptional fast bowling skills during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Despite India’s series loss, Bumrah’s individual performance was remarkable, taking 32 wickets in three Tests at an average of 14.22.
He took nine wickets each in the Brisbane and Melbourne Tests. His impressive bowling spells kept India competitive throughout the series and earned him the Player of the Series award.
Bumrah also achieved the highest-ever ICC Test Player Rankings points by an Indian bowler.
Dane Paterson played a crucial role in securing South Africa’s place in the WTC 2025 Final.
His impressive performances in the Test series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan helped the Proteas cement their spot.
Paterson took 13 wickets in two Tests at an average of 16.92.
His match-winning spells included figures of 5/71 against Sri Lanka and 5/61 against Pakistan, ensuring South Africa’s victories.
These performances helped South Africa top the WTC standings and qualify for the final against Australia.
Each nominee demonstrated outstanding skill and determination throughout December 2024, contributing significantly to their respective teams’ successes.
Pat Cummins’ all-round performance secured Australia’s victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a place in the WTC Final.
