The 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series ended on Sunday with Australia registering a series-clinching six-wicket win in the fifth and final Test in Sydney as a number of records were rewritten during the course of last month and a half.
The 3-1 triumph gave Australia the possession of BGT for the first time since 2014, with Travis Head emerging as the overall top run-getter with his tally of 448 runs, including 2 hundreds and 1 fifty, while Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling charts with a record-breaking show of 32 wickets.
For Australia, Pat Cummins’s 25 wickets were the most, while Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 391 runs, including 1 hundred and 2 fifties, were the maximum scored by an Indian batter.

Here’s the list of records:
1) Bumrah, with 32 wickets at an average of 13.06 in five Tests, has set a record by an Indian bowler in an overseas Test series, eclipsing the 31 (average 23.87) wickets in the five-Test series by Bishan Singh Bedi against Australia in 1977-78.
2) Bumrah has recorded a strike rate of 26.9 while claiming 86 wickets at an average of 13.76 in 21 matches in 2024 – the best by any Indian bowler across formats in a calendar year. His tally includes five instances of five-wicket hauls, all in Tests.
3) In the match at Melbourne, Bumrah completed his 200 Test wickets, which is a record for the quickest Indian fast bowler to this milestone and the second quickest by an Indian bowler behind Ravichandran Ashwin’s 37 Tests.

4) Rishabh Pant has registered strike rate of 184.84 during his innings of 61 off 33 balls at Sydney — the highest by an Indian batter in a Test innings of 50-plus, outshining the 161.81 by Kapil Dev during his knock of 89 off 55 balls against England at Lord’s in 1982.
5) Pant raced to his 50 off 29 balls in the Sydney Test — the quickest by an Indian batter against Australia in Tests.
6) Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 16 runs (4, 4, 4, 4) off Mitchell Starc’s first over — the most by an Indian batter in the first over of an innings.
7) Steve Smith completed his 5000 runs in Tests at home to become the sixth batter to amass 5000 runs in Australia — his tally being 5015 at an average of 59.70 in 58 Tests, joining Ricky Ponting (7578), Allan Border (5743), Steve Waugh (5710), David Warner (5438) and Matthew Hayden (5210). Smith remains the only player to have averaged 59-plus in Tests in Australia.

8) With his 114 off 189 balls in the first innings of the Melbourne Test, Nitish Kumar Reddy has become the first Indian batter at number eight or below to post a hundred against Australia in Australia in Tests.
9) With 25 dismissals in the five-Test series, Pant has become the first Indian wicketkeeper to achieve the distinction of effecting 25 dismissals against any opponent in a series.
10) Virat Kohli, with his 100 not out in the Perth Test, has become the first visiting batter to post 10 hundreds in international cricket across formats against Australia in Australia — 7 in Tests and 3 in ODIs.
11) Steve Smith has now 11 hundreds in 24 Tests vs India — the most by a batter, eclipsing the 10 in 30 Tests by Joe Root.
