IPL, PSL set to clash; PCB seeks unsold cricketers from Jeddah auction

NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are set to clash for the first time, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been working to sign well-known foreign players who weren’t selected for the Indian T20 extravaganza.
Steve Smith and Kane Williamson, two of the best batters in the world, are not expected to be available for the PSL. The PCB is also seeking permission from the England Cricket Board (ECB) to allow its players to play in the T20 league in April and May.

Top players David Warner, Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes, and Mustafizur Rahman will be included in the Platinum category during the players’ draft on January 11, according to a statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday.
Australia’s Matthew Short, Riley Meredith, and Steve Smith (pending confirmation) are among the other players in the Platinum category, which is the highest. Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Tom Curran, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore are from England.
Finn Allen of New Zealand, Mark Chapman, and Kane Williamson (pending confirmation) are also included in the platinum category. This group also includes Shai Hope of the West Indies and Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka.
Williamson and Smith have reportedly excused themselves from the PSL because of prior obligations.
Because of his bowling ban, Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh will only be permitted to play in the league as a batter.
Chris Lynn, Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Kusal Mendis, David Willey, Usman Khawaja, Zak Crawley, Jason Roy, Michael Bracewell, and Alex Hales are among the other players in the platinum group.
A few international players, including Australia’s Alex Carey, have been placed in the Diamond and Gold divisions.
