PATNA: Two people, who were in inebriated condition, were arrested after they fired at police in Manikpur village under Town police station in Gopalganj district in the early hours of Thursday.
One of them, identified as Raju Kumar, alias Raju Ram, a resident of Kakarkund village, was shot in the leg, and was undergoing treatment in PMCH under police custody.
The incident took place around 2.30am when an uncontrolled SUV rammed into a police patrolling vehicle on Yadopur Road before speeding away.
Police became suspicious and as they tried to intercept the car, the driver increased speed and broke a diversion to flee.
The car, in which four people were travelling, reached Manikpur village. When the police arrived there, the criminals started running away, firing at the police team.
Gopalganj SP Awadhesh Dixit told TOI that they also fired in retaliation, during which Ram was shot in the leg. “Due to this, he could not escape, and the police took him in custody, before admitting him to Sadar Hospital, Gopalganj,” he said.
