NEW DELHI: In 2024, the Indian cricket team had a remarkable run in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), highlighted by their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
India hosted Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series, securing a 2-0 victory with one match abandoned due to rain. The series featured dominant performances, including a comprehensive win in the second T20I in Delhi.
India toured South Africa for a four-match T20I series, clinching the series 3-1. A standout performance was in Johannesburg, where centuries from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma propelled India to a massive total, leading to a 135-run victory.
The T20 World Cup took place from June 4 to 30, 2024, across venues in the West Indies and the USA. India entered the tournament with high expectations and delivered exceptional performances throughout.
On June 29, 2024, India faced South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. In a thrilling encounter, India emerged victorious, securing their second T20 World Cup title after a 17-year wait. This win marked India’s first major ICC event triumph since the 2013 Champions Trophy.
India became the first team in T20 World Cup history to win the title undefeated throughout the tournament.
Following the World Cup victory, stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is, marking the end of an era for Indian cricket.
The tournament also marked the conclusion of Rahul Dravid‘s tenure as India’s head coach, capping off with a World Cup win.
Throughout 2024, India played 26 T20I matches, achieving 24 wins and suffering only 2 losses, resulting in an impressive win percentage of 92.31%.
