NEW DELHI: Following their talks on the border issue a day earlier, Indian and Chinese officials met again in Beijing on Wednesday to discuss resumption of dialogue mechanisms in a step-by-step manner and utilise those to address each other’s “priority areas and move relations on to a more stable path”.
As agreed in January, during foreign secretary Vikram Misri’s visit, both sides agreed to continue efforts to further facilitate and promote people-to-people exchanges, including arrangements for resumption of direct flights, interaction of media and think-tanks, and celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Indian govt said that India and China made further progress on the modalities to resume Kailash Manasarovar Yatra in 2025.
After the PM Modi-Xi meeting last year in Kazan (Russia), bilateral engagements have already resumed at the foreign secretary and special representative level. The foreign ministers too have been meeting on the sidelines of multilateral events and a bilateral visit is not ruled out. China also expects participation by PM Modi at the SCO summit it will host later this year.
