The editorial in Saamana, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s mouthpiece, called for introspection within the INDIA alliance, emphasizing the need for unity and dialogue akin to the practices once adopted by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The piece critiqued the growing disarray within the opposition bloc, citing internal conflicts and lack of coordination post-Lok Sabha elections. Highlighting Congress and AAP’s electoral clashes in Delhi, the editorial questioned the alliance’s cohesion and laments the absence of a dedicated convener like George Fernandes, who once maintained unity within the NDA.
It noted that the BJP’s strategy of exploiting disunity among opposition parties, combined with alleged misuse of institutions and promotion of industrialist friends, has helped consolidate its power.
Saamana further called out Congress for its inability to reconcile differences with regional allies, accusing it of undermining coalition politics by encroaching on their political space.
Referring to Omar Abdullah‘s remarks about the INDIA alliance being temporary, the editorial warned that such perspectives could weaken its relevance. It urged Congress to learn from the NDA’s past structure, where regular meetings and open communication between leaders fostered trust and strategic collaboration.
Concluding with a plea for unity, the piece said, “Elections will come and go, but the INDIA alliance must rise above ego and political gossip to counter BJP’s divisive tactics and restore democratic values. Dialogue is essential, and history will not forgive inaction.”
