NEW DELHI: India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah added another milestone to his illustrious career on Saturday, breaking spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi’s long-standing record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in a Test series in Australia.
Bumrah’s remarkable haul of 32 wickets in the ongoing 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy surpassed Bedi’s 31-wicket feat from the 1977/78 series.
Bumrah claimed his 32nd wicket by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne with a length delivery that moved away late, drawing a faint edge to wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
Most wickets for India in a series in Australia:
32 wickets* – Jasprit Bumrah (2024/25)
31 wickets – Bishan Bedi (1977/78)
28 wickets – BS Chandrasekhar (1977/78)
25 wickets – EAS Prasanna (1967/68)
25 wickets – Kapil Dev (1991/92)
Australia, who lead 2-1, need a win or a draw to secure the trophy for the first time in 10 years, while India need a win to make it 2-2 and retain the BGT as the previous edition’s winners.
India previously secured back-to-back series wins in Australia, first under Virat Kohli’s leadership in 2018-19 and then with Ajinkya Rahane in 2020-21.
