IISc, NRDC join forces to accelerate tech commercialisation

BENGALURU: The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) entered into an important partnership aimed at fast-tracking the commercialisation of innovative technologies developed at IISc.
The collaboration, formalised through an MoU signed on Friday, aims to address the critical gap between research and industry by facilitating technology transfer, protecting intellectual property rights, and providing mentorship to startups.
“IISc, as the leading institute in the country, excelled not only in groundbreaking research but also in intellectual property generation and technology transfer. Collaborating with NRDC promises to further enhance these efforts, and I am confident that this partnership will foster a productive and long-lasting collaboration,” IISc Intellectual Property and Technical Licensing (IPTeL) Chair, Prof Suryasarathi Bose, told TOI.
This alliance, leveraging NRDC’s extensive experience in technology transfer and intellectual property rights management, combined with IISc’s cutting-edge research capabilities, is expected to play a crucial role in transforming laboratory innovations into market-ready technologies, thereby contributing to India’s socioeconomic growth.
NRDC, with its track record of more than 5,100 technology transfer agreements and more than 2,000 patent applications, brings valuable expertise to the collaboration. The partnership aligns with NRDC’s existing initiatives, including the Programme for Inspiring Inventors and Innovators (PIII) and the Programme for Development of Technologies for Commercialisation (PDTC), both operating under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
“This collaboration exemplifies the synergy between premier R&D institutions and organisations like NRDC to unlock the potential of Indian innovations,” stated the NRDC Representative at the signing ceremony.
