JAMSHEDPUR: A seven-year-old girl was killed and her aunt in her 30s injured in an IED blast after the minor stepped onto the pressure-triggered explosive planted by Maoist in Saranda Forest in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Tuesday.
The girl, along with her mother, aunt, and another person, had gone to Tirilposi-Thalkobad stretch of the forest to collect firewood, said a local. . “IED was planted by Maoists to target security forces,” SP Ashutosh Shekhar said.
The girl suffered serious injuries to both her legs. Locals rushed her to Manoharpur community health centre where she was declared dead. Forces recovered four IEDs between Dec 10 and Jan 5 from forest areas of Jaraikela, Tonto and Chotanagra police station limits, police said.
