HC rejects plea to cancel CAT results

NEW DELHI: Delhi HC on Tuesday rejected a plea to set aside the results of Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 for admissions to IIMs and other business schools, noting that the process adopted was “meticulous and transparent”.
IIM-aspirant Aditya Kumar Mallick moved HC, claiming that there was an error in the provisional answer key regarding a question in English comprehension section.
HC rejected the plea, citing the law laid down in Supreme Court’s landmark decisions that courts should refrain from undertaking the evaluation of question papers and answer sheets as this undermines the expertise of the examining body.
“No court is to sit in an appeal over the opinion of an academic body unless there is clear evidence of malafide or procedural irregularities. The petitioner failed to show either,” Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju said.
Mallick reasoned that despite his objection, the final answer key was released with no changes to the provisional answer key. He alleged that IIM Calcutta hurriedly declared the results on Dec 19.
