Wayne Gretzky, a 20-year NHL player, has rewritten the record books for most goals, assists, and points in league history. He retired after the 1998-99 season with 61 NHL records. Although Alex Ovechkin may break Gretzky’s all-time record for goals, there are other unbreakable records he holds. Gretzky shared his favorite record with comedian Theo Von on the ”This Past Weekend” podcast. Despite his impressive career, some of his records may never be broken.

During his 1998-1999 season “The Great One” concluded an extraordinary professional career with 61 NHL records which demonstrated his superior ability. The NFL issued a unique tribute by having players from every team permanently retire his iconic jersey number 99 which remains the only single jersey number permanently retired across the league.
Alex Ovechkin steadily approaches Gretzky’s all-time goal record except many additional records seem impossible to beat. On the This Past Weekend podcast with comedian Theo Von Gretzky disclosed which among his abundant NHL records means the most to him. The response he provided mirrored the greatness of his athletic accomplishments. ”They’re all fun, you know, I’m proud of them all. But my favorite record is the year I scored 50 goals in 39 games,” Gretzky said.
Wayne Gretzky is the only player to score 50 goals in one season in the NHL, a feat that has been accomplished by only five players in eight seasons. In the 1981-82 season, he achieved this feat in 39 games, setting a record that seems impossible to break.
Wayne Gretzky further added, “That’s my favorite record because, listen, all records are made to be broken, but to me, that’s going to be the hardest record to break. To get 50 goals in 38 games … from that point of view, it’s my favorite.”
