A hammer attack at Tokyo’s Hosei University‘s Tama Campus injured at least eight people on Friday afternoon. A woman in her 20s was arrested at the scene.
The attack occurred at the university’s campus in Tokyo’s Machida district. Public broadcaster NHK, citing police sources, reported all the injured individuals are conscious.
Jiji Press confirmed the arrest of a woman in her 20s. Broadcaster FNN reported the attacker appeared to be a student in her 20s and was stopped by university staff. Tokyo police have not yet confirmed these details.
Emergency vehicles responded to the scene.
This incident follows other acts of violence in Japan, including the 2022 assassination of former prime minister Shinzo Abe, a December 2024 stabbing at a McDonald’s, and a 2019 attack in Kawasaki.
