Groom’s kin shot dead in Uttar Pradesh for ‘complaining about poor food quality’

AGRA: A relative of the bridegroom was shot dead by the bride’s uncle in front of scores of guests after he complained of the quality of food served to ‘baraatis’ at a wedding feast in UP on Saturday night.
DSP (Sahawar) Shahida Nasrin said, “A case of murder has been registered against the bride’s uncle, Vijay Kumar. He has been arrested.”
The incident took place in Roshan Nagar village in Sahawar area of Kasganj district. Arun Kumar, 37, was part of the wedding procession which had come from Sikandrarao in Hathras. His brother Lalit said that Arun, while having food after the wedding ceremony, had remarked that it wasn’t cooked properly and quality was not good either.
“Hearing the complaint, the bride’s uncle (in his early 50s) had a heated argument with him and in a fit of rage, pulled out an illegal 315-bore firearm and shot him in the head, in front of everyone. He was rushed to the district hospital where doctors declared him dead,” Lalit said.
A police officer added that the wedding was at the house of Rumal Singh, whose daughter was getting married.
“Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, a case was registered under BNS section 103 (murder). The firearm used to kill the man was also recovered,” the officer said.
Journalist shot dead in accidental firing during wedding celebration in Kasganj
A 30-year-old journalist working at a local news agency was allegedly shot dead during celebratory gunfire at a wedding in Kasganj on February 7. The victim, Rahul Mathur, a local resident, was dancing on a DJ stage when his friend, Deepak Thakur, fired shots into the air.
According to locals, after firing, Thakur reloaded the firearm for another round, but it accidentally misfired, with a bullet striking Mathur in the head. He collapsed on the spot. Thakur attempted to flee the venue but was caught and assaulted by some guests.
The incident occurred during the final stage of the wedding, but the ceremony was still completed, locals said.
