'Goal to defeat BJP': Akhilesh Yadav backs AAP over Congress for Delhi elections

NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said that he support the Aam Aadmi Party over Congress in the upcoming Delhi assembly election and said that their goal is to defeat BJP.
Talking about the INDIA bloc, the SP chief said that when the alliance was formed it was decided that wherever a regional party was strong, they would extend support to them.
“INDIA bloc is intact. I remember when the INDIA bloc was formed, it was decided that wherever a regional party was strong, the alliance would extend support to them. AAP is strong in Delhi and Samajwadi Party has decided to give support to the AAP. The regional party fighting against the BJP should be supported by the leaders of the INDIA alliance,” Akhilesh Yadav said.

“AAP and Congress are fighting against each other in Delhi. AAP is strong and we have decided to stand with them…The question is about Delhi and our goal is that the BJP gets defeated. Congress and AAP have the same goal too…” he added.
While Akhilesh has already announced SP’s support to AAP, other regional parties including Mamata Banerjee led TMC too have endorsed AAP.
Congress responded to SP and TMC ‘s support saying that the two parties have no influence on Delhi electorate, Kerjiwal has accused the Congress of teaming up with the BJP in the Delhi polls to defeat AAP. This acrimony has led to speculations that the two constituents of INDIA bloc were no longer seeing eye to eye.
