France’s President Emmanuel Macron on Monday alleged that X platform owner Elon Musk is interfering in elections in multiple countries.
During his address to French ambassadors, Macron said, “Ten years ago, who could have imagined it if we had been told that the owner of one of the largest social networks in the world would support a new international reactionary movement and intervene directly in elections, including in Germany”.
However, he also remarked that US president-elect Donald Trump “knows he has a strong ally in France”.
The French President discussed several global political situations, including the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the change in Syria’s leadership, and the situation in the Middle East.
Regarding Ukraine, the French President said that “no quick and easy solution”, adding that Ukraine needs to be “realistic” over “territorial issues”.
For Syria, Macron cautioned against the West being overly trusting towards Syria’s new leadership following Assad’s removal from power in December last year.. “We must regard the regime change in Syria without naivety,” Macron stated He further emphasised that France would maintain its support for “freedom fighters, like the Kurds” who continue their battle against extremist organisations in Syria.
Additionally, he indicated that the Middle East matter would be a crucial topic for discussions with the incoming administration of Trump while terming Iran as the aggressor. “Iran is the main strategic and security challenge for France, the Europeans, the entire region and beyond,” he said.
