Bobby Ryan, one of the most popular and talented players in the NHL, has been away from the ice since 2021. While he has not officially retired from the NHL, his buyout money from the Detroit Red Wings ended last year. However, in 2022, the talented player found himself in a controversy after he was arrested at the Nashville International Airport.
Bobby Ryan Was Caught Trying To Shoplift From An Airport Store And Was Arrested For It
In July 2022, according to ESPN, Bobby Ryan was caught on video camera when he was allegedly caught on camera when he was trying to shoplift from a store at the Nashville International Airport.
The former NHL player then left the store and entered a bar but he was soon caught by the authorities. However, when Bobby Ryan was caught, authorities deemed him to be a danger to himself.
Bobby Ryan was then arrested, but eight hours later, he was released. After he was released a few days later, he took to X to talk about the incident.
Bobby Ryan’s statements on X read as, “I’ve had so many incredible messages today. Thank you for all of them. Today is day 1 (again). Mostly embarrassed, but I shouldn’t be. Today I’m waking up and choosing better.”
He added: “If you’re going to really relapse.. you might as well have to travel the next day as well. I hate this, never again.”
Bobby Ryan also added, “Every now and again you’re reminded exactly why social media exists and today is such a good reason.”
He continued, “Thank you guys all from the bottom of my heart. I hate that I’m here, but it’s where I am and I’ll own that.”
Bobby Ryan, the former NHL player, had been struggling with alcohol addiction for quite some time and he has also been pretty open about it.
After his buyout period with the Detroit Red Wings ended in 2024, he changed his career path and joined Brent Wallace and Jason York on their podcast Coming in Hot. But by April 2024, the podcast and Bobby Ryan parted ways due to a few controversial posts made by the former NHL player.
