KANPUR: A property dealer and his business partner have been arrested on Saturday for killing a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah.
According to officials, the victim had given money to a property dealer for a plot. However, when she asked for her money back, the dealer and his associate allegedly lured her under the pretext of returning the amount. They intoxicated her with alcohol inside a vehicle and then strangled her using a scarf.
The perpetrators disposed her body in the Yamuna River near Ekdil area and destroyed her scooter by burning it and discarding it in a drain.
The police disclosed these details on Saturday after arresting the suspects, who were subsequently imprisoned.
The investigation began when a resident of Friends Colony reported to the Civil Line police station that her sister had been abducted on April 7 around 9pm between ITI crossing and Mainpuri Gate.
The police apprehended two suspects near Lohanna Chauraha during the night between Friday and Saturday.
The arrested individuals were identified as Shivendra Yadav (26) from Ranveer Nagar and Gaurav Kashyap (19) from Munni Ka Adda.
During questioning, Shivendra admitted to his friendship with the deceased woman, who had provided him seven lakh rupees for plot registration. He confessed that on April 7, while drinking together, an argument erupted when Anjali demanded her money back.
Enraged, Shivendra forced her to consume alcohol before strangling her. He and Gaurav then disposed of her body in the river. SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma confirmed the recovery of the burnt scooter from a drain near ITI Chauraha and the victim’s body from the Yamuna River in Ekdil area on Saturday.
“The police have recovered the scarf, two mobile phones, and a car,” he said and added, “Both the accused have been sent to jail after being booked under relevant BNS sections.”
