NEW DELHI: Fog affected railway operations in Delhi on Monday morning, causing delays for 19 trains, according to the Indian Railways.
Several trains experienced delays, including “Nauchandi Express (14241), Vaishali Express (12553), Kir Asr Express (15707), S Kranti Sup Express (12393), Anvt Garib Rath (22409) and Kashi Vishwanath Express (15127).”
Indian Railways has requested passengers to verify current train timings before starting their journey.
Various areas of the national capital experienced heavy fog coverage during the morning hours.
Defence personnel conducted their Republic Day parade practice at Kartavya Path despite the foggy conditions.
The Akshardham Temple area was enveloped in a light fog cover as cold conditions persisted in the National Capital.
The India Meteorological Department reported Delhi’s temperature at 12.6 degrees Celsius at 5 am.
The IMD forecasts Delhi’s minimum temperature to reach 11 degrees Celsius today.
The national capital’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category, with the Central Pollution Control Board recording Delhi’s Air Quality Index at 344 at 8 am, slightly higher than yesterday’s reading of 340 at the same time.
The AQI scale categorises readings as follows: 0-50 as ‘good’, 51-100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 as ‘moderate’, 201-300 as ‘poor’, 301-400 as ‘very poor’, and 401-500 as ‘severe’.
Delhi’s homeless population sought refuge in night shelters from the cold weather.
The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) established 235 pagoda tents as homeless shelters, with additional facilities across various locations.
Other North Indian regions were also affected by fog this morning, with dense fog conditions prevailing over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and North Rajasthan.
