Focus on Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep growth while preserving heritage: Shah

NEW DELHI: Counting infrastructure development and enhancement of tourism facilities in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep among the key priorities of Modi govt, home minister Amit Shah on Friday emphasised upon achieving 100% renewable energy generation in the two island groups through installation of solar panels and windmills.
While reviewing the progress of development projects in the islands at the seventh meeting of Island Development Agency (IDA) here, Shah said Modi govt was focused on accelerating development works while preserving the culture and heritage of the islands that are “close to our hearts” despite their physical distance from Delhi. The IDA meeting was attended by Andaman and Nicobar L-G Admiral (Retd) D K Joshi and Lakshadweep administrator Praful Patel, besides home secretary Govind Mohan and secretaries and officials of various Union ministries.
Shah stressed on the need for a holistic approach to infrastructure projects in both island groups and called on all concerned central ministries to collaborate on initiatives related to tourism, trade, and other key sectors. He issued directives for addressing pending issues and expediting the completion of ongoing projects. tnn
