Facial analysis confirms arrested Saif Ali Khan attacker as man on CCTV, say cops

Mumbai: Facial analysis report in Saif Ali Khan attack case has confirmed that photos of the man arrested for stabbing the actor matches the images of the person seen on CCTV footage. The report was submitted to Bandra police Friday, reports V Narayan.
The footage includes over two dozen CCTV recordings, selected from over 300 camera captures at Satguru Sharan building, where Bangladeshi national Shariful Fakir (30) allegedly attacked Saif.
Police requested facial recognition testing due to questions about differences between Shariful’s appearance and the intruder captured on the building’s CCTV footage. “Despite the grainy quality and absence of night vision technology, the forensic report confirms matches across all 12 observation points with the arrested man,” said an officer. The footage was forwarded to FSL after police informed magistrate Komalsingh Rajput at Bandra court on Jan 24 about requiring a facial recognition test, securing extended police custody until Jan 29. Shariful was subsequently remanded in judicial custody Wednesday and is lodged at Arthur Road Jail.
Police await FSL’s DNA profiling results of Shariful’s cap and other materials seized from Saif’s flat. “Testing perspiration found on the seized materials will strengthen the case,” said a cop. Blood samples from Saif, staff nurse and Shariful’s clothes were also sent to verify blood stains found on attacker’s clothes.
