Former Formula 1 team Jordan Grand Prix owner and television pundit Eddie Jordan has passed away at the age of 76 after a year-long battle with cancer. He had revealed last year that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder and prostate cancer, which had spread to his spine and pelvis. His family confirmed in a statement that he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Who was Eddie Jordan?
Recently, Jordan had been managing Red Bull technical engineer Adrian Newey and was overseeing his transition from the team to Aston Martin. He also played a crucial role in leading a consortium that rescued the rugby union club London Irish from administration. Additionally, he was involved as a broadcaster for the BBC and Channel 4.
Jordan owned the F1 team Jordan Grand Prix from 1991 to 2005, a period that spanned 15 seasons and saw the team secure four race victories. He also held a share in Celtic Football Club.
Eddie Jordan dies at 76
In a statement released on Thursday, the family said, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, the former Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit, and entrepreneur. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Cape Town during the early hours of March 20, 2025.”
The official x (formerly Twitter) handle of Formula 1 shared a note from F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. Remembering him on his passing, he wrote, “We are deeply saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Eddie Jordan. With his inexhaustible energy he always knew how to make people smile, remaining genuine and brilliant at all times.”
“Eddie has been a protagonist of an era of F1 and he will be deeply missed. In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts and those of the entire Formula 1 family are with his family and loved ones,” he added.

David Lamb shared a few candid pictures of the F1 personality on X and wrote, “Sleep well Eddie! What a true Irish Legend. Motorsports won’t be the same without you #EddieJordan #EJf1.”

Carlos Sainz also shared his condolences on X. He wrote, “Very sad to hear the news Eddie Jordan passing away. He was a true friend of his friends and really charismatic person inside the F1 world.”
A fan wrote, “Gutted to see this. He made the sport fun, and was one of the great personalities. RIP Eddie Jordan.”
Jordan had four children. He was also the subject of the documentary This is your Life in 2000.
