NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA and former Bihar health minister Tej Pratap Yadav was fined Rs. 4,000 by the traffic police for riding a scooter without a helmet near the chief minister’s residence in Patna.
Additionally, the scooter was found to have expired insurance and a pollution certificate, news agency ANI said on Sunday.
Yadav had taken the scooter ride earlier in the day as part of Holi celebrations.
Security Constable Penalised for Dancing in Uniform
Meanwhile, a security constable assigned to Tej Pratap Yadav was sent to the police lines after being seen dancing in uniform during the Holi festivities at the MLA’s residence.
According to a statement from the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Constable Deepak Kumar was relieved of his duty with immediate effect and will be replaced by another officer.
Viral Video Sparks Controversy
Yadav found himself at the centre of yet another controversy after a video surfaced on social media showing him instructing the constable to perform a ‘thumka’ (pelvic thrust) or risk suspension.
In the viral clip, the Hasanpur MLA can be seen seated on a sofa on a makeshift stage, microphone in hand, addressing the security personnel.
“Ae sipahi, ae Deepak, abhi ek gana bajaenge jis par tumko thumka lagana padega. Nahin lagaoge to tumko suspend kar denge. Bura na maano Holi hai” (Hey policeman Deepak… we are going to play a song, and you must perform a pelvic thrust. If you don’t, you will be suspended. Don’t mind, it’s Holi),” Yadav is heard saying before a musical band begins playing a devotional song popular during Holi in Bihar.
While the constable refrained from performing a full ‘thumka,’ he did comply with Yadav’s request to some extent, hopping a few times with his right arm raised in the air.
