Seasoned actor Aasif Sheikh, best known for his role as Vibhuti Narayan Mishra in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, recently suffered a severe back spasm while shooting action sequences for the show’s upcoming film in Dehradun. The actor, who has been dealing with a slipped disc issue, experienced an intense spasm and sciatica pain, leaving him unable to walk. He was brought to Mumbai in a wheelchair and is now taking medication. In an exclusive conversation with Times of India TV, Aasif Sheikh revealed he is resting at home and on a recovery mode. He also shared that he is receiving steroid injections and painkillers while being advised complete bed rest.
Recalling the incident, the veteran actor shared, “I have had a slipped disc issue for a while, but this time, it got really bad. We had a hectic schedule while shooting for our film Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain in Dehradun. For the last three to four days, we were filming action sequences, and on the second-last day, we had been shooting the entire day. By evening, around 7:30-8:00, my back started hurting. During a short 15-20 minute break, I told the team, ‘I’ll just go to my vanity, stretch my legs, and lie down for a bit.’ I thought some rest would help. But when they came to call me for the shoot, I started walking towards the set, which was about 100-150 meters away, and suddenly, I realized, my god, it’s gone. I just couldn’t walk. I had a massive spasm, and the sciatica pain made it worse. I simply couldn’t stand or move.”
He further shared, “I just could not stand or walk. I just somehow gave it my last shot and went to the hotel. I took heavy painkillers but it did not help me much. It was very painful. I could just barely stand, my left leg had become numb. The sciatica pain was going till my heel. Next day everybody helped me. Luckily the scene had me lie down in a car, somehow we wrapped the scene in one and half hour and my director relieved me. My director was really considerate and somehow he managed to wrap the portion early.”
The actor was brought to Mumbai in a wheelchair after his condition worsened. Sharing his experience, he said, “Then I went to the hotel and they got me a wheelchair. It was very embarrassing to sit in the wheelchair. Zindagi mein kabhi aisa nahi hua mere saath. I was brought in a wheelchair to Mumbai. I landed in Mumbai on the 18th and have been resting. I spoke to a few of my doctor friends. One of the doctors after consulting came home, and gave me steroids injections and a very heavy painkiller. Every alternate day, I’m taking injections, but until the swelling subsides, the pain won’t go away. I’m taking injections and painkillers. I have been advised complete bed rest by my doctor. I am going for an MRI today. This too shall pass. I am always very careful about my health.
The Karan Arjun actor, who is currently on complete bed rest, hopes to recover soon and get back to work. Expressing his optimism, he shared, “Yes, the family panicked as I was there in pain but now I’m at home. Things will get better and hopefully I should start shooting soon. I am currently taking rest for one more week.”
